ORIGIN OF THE MCGUFFEY CENTRE

Mrs. Charles Welcher

In 1926, on Youngstown’s East Side, a woman named Birdie Welcher saw a need in the community. In 1961, it grew into what we know today as the McGuffey Centre on Jacobs Road. Associated Neighborhood Center is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make.

ABOUT US

Here at ANC, The McGuffey Centre, we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making our community a better place for all.  We will accomplish this goal by:

  • Providing opportunities and resource referral for the improvement of the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of ANC communities of children, youth, families and seniors.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to community families to initiate and develop healthy, wholesome lifestyles.

  • Create avenue for supervised social, academic, and physical enrichment which promotes and develop community and personal self-esteem.

  • Provide avenue for cultural exchange and appreciation of diversity.

  • Provide leadership and guidance in the recognition of negative factors which impact ANC communities and the development of appropriate strategies which will diminish those factors.

We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.
